The Influence of the Guided Inquiry Learning Model in Supporting Chemistry Learning: A Systematic Literature Review
This study systematically examines the implementation of guided inquiry-based learning in chemistry learning. The study covers guided inquiry implementation, applicable chemical materials, measured variables, research media, and gaps. The research was conducted through a systematic literature review by following the PRISMA framework based on identification, screening, feasibility, and inclusion to ensure rigorous and transparent article selection. The selected articles published between 2016 and 2025 were retrieved using the ScienceDirect, Scopus, ERIC, and Google Scholar databases, resulting in 24 articles. The articles were then analyzed using a thematic synthesis approach, following Braun & Clarke's steps, to answer the research questions. This review aims to provide teachers and researchers in chemistry education with information on the influence and application of the guided inquiry learning model. The review shows that the guided inquiry learning model has been integrated with various learning approaches and models, such as green chemistry, STEM, SETS, scientific, experimental, contextual, simulation, and other learning models. Chemical equilibrium is the most researched material, while reaction rate is still relatively understudied. The most commonly measured aspect was learning outcomes, followed by critical thinking, high-level thinking skills (HOTS), and science process skills. In terms of learning tools, students’ worksheets (LKPD) are the most widely used because they can systematically facilitate guided inquiry. The analysis also shows that research is still dominated by a quantitative approach focused on learning outcomes. At the same time, research that measures cognitive and affective aspects, such as comprehension and self-efficacy, remains limited. The use of other media is still limited. Guided inquiry learning using electronic modules is a promising research opportunity because it can support all stages of inquiry in a structured way and integrate digital features that increase student engagement and help visualize abstract chemistry concepts.
